Jammin’ with Jamun
April 16th, 2008
Friends, today chicken and rice makes a bold claim–one that may shake you to your apple-pie loving cores. Not everything that is delicious was invented in the USA. Sure, we invented fried chicken, pancakes, and diversity, but even then some delicious was created beyond these shores. Surprised? We were as well. But if
we are one thing at chicken and rice, it is open to give delicious a chance no matter what shape, color, or ethnicity. I give you the gulab jamun.
The gulab jamun, India’s crowning achievement since they invented 0, is like a doughnut but kicked up a notch. Cover fried dough with sugar syrup and let it soak to give it an
extra punch to the face when you bite into it. But wait, there’s more. Gulab jamun is the answer to so many of life’s burning questions. What if I’m still hungry after an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet? Eat a gulab. What if I forgot my wife’s birthday and all the stores are closed? Get her a gulab. How do I get India and Pakistan to stop fighting over Kashmir? Sounds like a gulab emergency to me. Don’t understand? Try one. You probably still won’t understand. But at least you’ll be full.

the delicious diagram has reinstilled my faith in humanity

Dude, do I spy a picture with Jackie in it? She’s gonna kick your ass if she finds out…

no, young one, what you see is a very good artist’s rendition of jackie

Ah, of course. Clearly that picture is and *always* has been far too blurry to actually recognize who it is in that reflection. My mistake, old one. :p

The number of things that are foreign and delicious and rhyme with ramen, but are not fried is very small. Very small indeed.

haha true paige, also notice that most things that are fried happen to be things that are foreign ;)
Comment by brian — April 22, 2008 @ 6:33 pm
that’s wrong. you’re wrong.

Um, Brian, most things that are fried happen to be delicious, not foreign. Your assertion that most fried things are foreign is borderline communist. :)

how silly of me

This graph is clearly not to scale. How many things actually rhyme with ramen?

So I was ordering Indian food at work last night, saw these familiar words on the menu, figured “why not?” I was skeptical, they’re not exactly visually impressive, but wow, you are totally right about the delicious. Mmmm.
